PragmaticAudio Lossless Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 October 2026
This policy covers the PragmaticAudio Lossless apps for iPhone and iPad, Android, macOS and Windows. The apps are published by Pragmatic Audio, Ireland (“we”). The Pragmatic Audio PEQ apps and the pragmaticaudio.com website have their own privacy policy.
The short version
The app has no accounts of ours, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. It plays your music to devices on your own network, or on your own device. Your settings, libraries and sign-ins stay on your device. Audio is never recorded, and none of your data is ever sent to us.
Audio and your local network
- Music is read, converted if needed, and sent in real time to the outputs you choose: AirPlay receivers, DLNA / UPnP players, WiiM and LinkPlay streamers, Chromecast devices, or your device’s own speaker, headphones or DAC. Audio is processed in memory and is never recorded or sent to us.
- The app uses your local network only to find speakers, players and media servers there (Bonjour / mDNS and SSDP) and to stream to them. iOS and macOS ask you for Local Network access for this.
- For DLNA and Cast players, the app runs a small web server on your device while it plays. It serves only the music you are playing, to the players you selected, on your local network.
- AirPlay receivers that need pairing (for example an Apple TV or a HomePod) are paired once. The pairing keys are kept on your device so you are not asked again.
System audio (optional)
The app can also stream what other apps are playing. In every case the sound is passed to the app on your device, streamed to the outputs you selected, and never recorded or stored.
- iPhone and iPad (iOS 27 and later): when you choose Pragmatic Lossless as the output in Control Center, iOS passes the audio to the app’s extension, which hands it to the app on your device.
- macOS: through the audio output the app installs, which you choose as the Mac’s sound output.
- Android: Android asks your permission each time the capture starts. Android files this capture under the
microphone permission (
RECORD_AUDIO), and shows a notification while it runs. The app captures only the sound other apps are playing. It never records from the microphone. - Windows: from the Windows mixer, for the playback device you choose.
Your music libraries (optional)
You can connect the app to music you already have. Each connection is one you set up, directly between your device and that service. Nothing passes through us.
- Network shares (SMB) and DLNA media servers on your network. The user name and password you enter for a share are kept in the device’s secure storage (the iOS / macOS Keychain, or the Android and Windows equivalents).
- Plex: you sign in at plex.tv with a link code. The app keeps the access token Plex gives it on your device and uses it only to browse and play from your Plex servers.
- OneDrive, Dropbox and Google Drive: you sign in on the provider’s own page. The app asks for read-only access to
your files (Microsoft
Files.Read, Dropbox read access, Googledrive.readonly) and for your account’s email address, which is shown so you know which account is connected. The app uses this access only to list your folders and to read the music files you choose to play. It never changes, uploads, deletes or shares your files. Your files and file names go only to your device and to the players you stream to.- Sign-in tokens are kept in the device’s secure storage.
- Signing out in the app deletes them. You can also remove the app’s access at any time in your Microsoft, Dropbox or Google account settings.
- iCloud Drive and files on your device, through the system file picker. The app reads only the files and folders you pick.
Google user data
The app’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data from your Google Drive is used only to play your music in the app. It is not transferred to anyone, not used for advertising, not read by people, and not used to train AI or machine-learning models.
Lyrics (optional)
When you open lyrics for a track, the app looks them up on LRCLIB, a free public lyrics database, by sending the track’s title, artist, album and length. No account, device identifier or other data is sent. As with any web request, the server sees your IP address. Answers are cached on your device.
Data stored on your device
The app keeps the following in its own storage on your device:
- your settings, and the outputs and libraries you have added
- the play queue
- caches of album art, lyrics and library listings
- the passwords, sign-in tokens and AirPlay pairing keys described above
None of this is sent to us. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
What we do not do
- We do not collect personal information through the app.
- We do not use third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs in the app.
- We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not sell or share data.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Your rights
If you are in the EU, UK or elsewhere with similar laws, you have rights to access, correct or delete personal data about you. The app holds no personal data on our side, so there is nothing for us to access or delete. Data held by Microsoft, Dropbox, Google or Plex for your own account is handled under their privacy policies, and you can remove the app’s access in your account settings with each of them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
