Aiyima A07 Premium
A classic refined: better parts, nicer usability, and familiar sound
The Aiyima A07 Premium is a welcome update to one of my all‑time favorite budget amps. The original A07 was the little box that got me back into the hobby and, honestly, the product that inspired me to start Pragmatic Audio in the first place. This “Premium” refresh keeps the essence I loved while upgrading internal components and the exterior user experience.
I would like to thank Aiyima for providing the A07 Premium for this review.
All thoughts and opinions are my own, it retails on Aiyima website from $80.99, but if you go for the 48V power supply, it will bring the price up to $110.99. But as always with Aiyima products, you can get some great discounts buying their products from Amazon.
If you are interested in more information, it can be found here on Aiyima’s official product page
But while I do like all the upgrades Aiyima have used compared to the Original A07, there is one notable omission for 2025: unlike many newer TPA3255 amplifiers (including several from Aiyima), the A07 Premium doesn’t implement post‑filter feedback (PFFB). That means its treble frequency response will still vary slightly with different speaker loads, typically with high-end speakers. In practice, I don’t find this a deal‑breaker, especially if you pair it with a streamer that offers room correction or EQ (a WiiM Pro is perfect here). With that in place, any residual load‑dependency will be effectively normalised.
But let’s get into the details, first what is the unboxing experience.
Unboxing and Build Quality
Aiyima’s presentation is tidy and functional. My unit came well packed with the essentials and a clean, compact chassis that feels denser than the original.

- Included in the box:
- A07 Premium amplifier
- 32V 5A power supply (my unit)
- Instruction manual
There was a typo on the front of my box calling it an “Amplifir" rather than amplifier
The shell is a clean, matte finish with tighter panel gaps than my original A07s, and thermals are handled well for typical desktop or small‑room use. The internals show the updated parts selection, including well‑known ELNA/WIMA capacitors and tidy layout work.
On the outside, Aiyima has given the amp some genuinely nice touches. The volume control has a satisfying, precise “click” as you move up or down, and the staggered binding posts (borrowed from the A07 Max design) make thicker cables and banana plugs less fiddly. Overall it feels more premium without losing what made the A07 so widely loved.
Setup, I/O and Everyday Ergonomics
This is a simple, focused stereo speaker amplifier. On the back you’ll find RCA inputs, a 3.5 mm pre‑out ( volume‑controlled), DC power input, and staggered 5‑way binding posts that make life easier than the straight‑line layouts some competitors still use.

- Input mode: RCA
- Output mode: Passive speakers; pre‑out for active speakers/subs
- Power: DC 24–48V (comes with 32V/5A in my box; higher current PSU unlocks more headroom)
I particularly like the stepped volume action—it gives you confidence when matching levels or making small night‑time adjustments. The front panel keeps things clean and purposeful.
Features and Performance
- Chipset: Texas Instruments TPA3255 power stage + dual NE5532 op‑amps (socketed for rolling)
- Replaceable op‑amps: OPA2604, OPA2134, LM4562, JRC5532, etc.
- Pre‑out: 3.5 mm, full‑range, follows the main volume
- Power supply flexibility: 24–48 V DC; higher voltage/current increases maximum clean power
Aiyima’s component choices are solid here. The Premium unit descends from the A07 and A07 Max playbook, emphasizing stable power delivery and sensible heat management in a compact footprint. The update specifically includes better‑grade capacitors, a more precise volume control, and an improved cooling scheme. In practice, the move to better parts and general layout cleanliness are where you’ll feel the small but meaningful gains over an older A07.
Op‑amp rolling and my upgrade
The A07 Premium ships with dual NE5532 op‑amps, and the sockets make rolling easy. While I personally did not upgrade the op-amps I do appreciate what Aiyima have done to enable easy op-amp rolling. Consider this a flavor change more than a transformation—the stock tuning is already clean and neutral.
Sound Impressions (with speakers and real rooms)
A speaker amp “sounds” like its linearity, noise, and how it behaves under load. Without PFFB, treble response can shift subtly depending on your speakers’ impedance curve. With typical 2‑way bookshelf speakers, the A07 Premium retains the neutral‑to‑slightly‑crisp A07 character I remember—clean, punchy, and confident at sane listening levels.
- Bass: Tight and controlled, with good macro‑dynamics on efficient speakers. With a 32V supply you’ll feel some compression if you push larger woofers in big rooms—moving to a 48V/10A brick adds welcome headroom.
- Midrange: Clear and unforced. Vocals come through articulate and stable in the phantom center. The upgrade in parts helps preserve low‑level detail at lower volumes.
- Treble: Clean and slightly forward on some loads. If you hear occasional brightness, it’s likely load interaction rather than inherent harshness. A touch of EQ or mild room correction flattens this easily.
- Soundstage & Imaging: Solid center image with believable lateral spread. Imaging precision scales with your speakers and room more than the amp itself.
If you pair it with a WiiM Pro or similar and run basic room correction or a light high‑shelf trim, you’ll get a very consistent presentation across different speakers.
Measurements and Power
While I don’t consider this a lab‑grade review, my results and Aiyima’s published data align with expectations for a competent TPA3255 build. The Premium unit is quiet at idle and delivers clean power into 4–8 Ω loads with minimal fuss.
- Distortion: as low as 0.005% (marketing claim), 0.05% typical spec
- SNR: up to 103 dB (claimed)
- Frequency Response: 20 Hz–20 kHz (load‑dependent without PFFB)
- Output Power: up to 300 W ×2 (4 Ω, 10% THD, with 48V/10A)
Methodology notes:
- Tested on a desktop setup with 4–8 Ω bookshelf speakers; baseline measurements via consumer‑grade interfaces
- Expect small FR variations >5 kHz with different speaker impedances due to no PFFB
Comparisons
For level‑matched AB testing, I compared the A07 Premium directly with the Aiyima A70 (which implements PFFB) driving my KEF LS50 Meta. Once levels were precisely matched, I could not reliably tell them apart in blind swaps. That aligns with expectations: with sane listening levels and benign loads, both deliver clean performance; PFFB mainly ensures treble is load‑invariant, which is a nice safety net but not always audibly different in typical use.
- Aiyima A07 (original): The Premium feels nicer, measures a bit cleaner, and is more pleasant to use day to day. Sonically similar overall—this is an evolution, not a rethink.
- Aiyima A07 Max: The Max gives you mono‑bridging and some layout differences aimed at higher sustained output. If you plan to run a single speaker per channel and want the slicker binding posts, the Premium gets you 90% of the way there with a simpler feature set.
- Aiyima A70 / Fosi V3 Mono (with PFFB): These newer designs aim at perfectly load‑invariant treble. If you’re sensitive to HF shifts and won’t run EQ or room correction, those are safer bets. If you will run a WiiM Pro/room EQ, the A07 Premium remains compelling at the price.

Rating Explanation
Pragmatic Rating: 4/5
Strengths:
- Noticeable build and component improvements over the original A07
- Great price‑to‑performance, especially if you already plan to use EQ/room correction
- Friendly ergonomics (clicky volume, staggered posts) and quiet idle
Trade‑offs:
- No PFFB means load‑dependent treble behavior remains
- True 300 W ×2 requires a beefy 48V/10A PSU; the included 32V/5A is fine for desktop/small rooms
Best for:
- Small to medium rooms; efficient bookshelf speakers
- Users pairing with a WiiM Pro or any room‑correction streamer/DAC
- Tinkerers who enjoy op‑amp rolling but want a clean baseline
Conclusion
This is exactly what I hoped Aiyima would do with the A07’s DNA: refine the feel, tidy the parts, and keep the core sound. I’d have loved to see PFFB to make it a slam‑dunk five‑star 2025 Class D amp, but in real‑world setups—especially with a basic room‑correction pass—it’s a non‑issue for many.
I’m happy to give the A07 Premium a pragmatic 4 stars. It’s a very nice upgrade to a classic, and still one of the easiest ways to build a tidy, great‑sounding little system without overspending. If you’ve been waiting for a good moment to jump in, this is it.
